Kathmandu police have detained three individuals accused of collecting large sums of money from job seekers by promising employment opportunities abroad and then cutting off contact.
According to police officials, the accused allegedly convinced victims that they could secure work placements in countries including New Zealand, Greece, and Georgia. After receiving payments, they reportedly became unreachable, prompting formal complaints from those affected.
Investigators state that one suspect took more than NPR 1.7 million from five individuals under the pretext of arranging jobs in New Zealand. Another allegedly collected NPR 260,000 from two people with promises linked to Greece. A third suspect is accused of receiving NPR 650,000 from a victim while claiming to facilitate employment in Georgia.
Following complaints filed by the victims, teams from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office traced and apprehended the suspects from different locations across the capital. Police confirmed that all three have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further legal proceedings.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, while urging job seekers to verify recruitment claims through official channels before making payments.
