The Government of Nepal has reached a three-point agreement with the parents of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary following a heinous crime committed against the child in Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-1, Bara. The agreement was finalized on Saturday evening at the Ministry of Home Affairs after discussions between government representatives and the victim's family.

Under the agreement, the government will establish a seven-member Garima Justice Commitment Committee through the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The committee is tasked with reviewing existing legal provisions regarding offences and penalties for heinous crimes and submitting a report with recommendations within seven days to assist in drafting new legislation.

Additionally, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development will coordinate with local authorities to construct a statue of the minor, fulfilling the aggrieved family's wishes. The Ministry of Home Affairs secretariat confirmed that the government has also agreed to facilitate the final rites of the child according to the family's cultural and traditional customs.

The accord was formally signed by Home Minister Sudan Gurung, Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal, Law Minister Sobhita Gautam, Women and Children Minister Sita Baadi, and Agriculture Minister Gita Chaudhary. The victim's parents, Manoj Kumar Chaudhary and Manmati Chaudhary, signed on behalf of the family.

This agreement reflects the government's commitment to expediting judicial proceedings while seeking structural legislative reforms to address grave criminal acts in the country.
