India dispatched an eighth Indian Air Force flight carrying humanitarian assistance to Kathmandu on September 9, 2026, to support ongoing rescue and relief operations following devastating flash floods in Nepal. The latest consignment forms part of an expedited relief effort launched on August 26, 2026, which has delivered over 130 tons of relief material and deployed 54 expert personnel to assist Nepali authorities.
In addition to standard relief items such as temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, and medicines, the Indian assistance includes specialized rescue gear. These supplies feature tunnel and mud rescue equipment—including mud rescue suits, gas detectors, breathing apparatus, and inflatable walkways—alongside portable generators, lighting towers, and dewatering pumps.
A specialized Indian tunnel rescue team has been working in coordination with the Nepali Army, initially operating across sites in Chilime and Langtang. Search efforts are currently concentrated at Chilime, where difficult terrain, constrained access, and steep tunnel slopes present significant operational challenges.

To accelerate search efforts in Chilime, teams are preparing a makeshift access path to enable heavy machinery, such as excavators, to reach the tunnel site, with completion expected in two to three days. Concurrently, an Indian forensic team is collaborating with Nepali authorities in two Kathmandu laboratories, utilizing provided DNA kits, reagents, and specialized profiling equipment to analyze samples.
India reaffirmed its commitment to providing all possible assistance to the Government and people of Nepal as joint rescue, relief, and recovery operations continue across affected regions.
