The Parsa District Police Office has successfully intercepted a significant shipment of unauthorized vehicles being operated within the Birgunj Metropolitan City and its surrounding rural corridors. In a coordinated crackdown, security personnel seized 24 Indian electric scooters that had been brought into Nepal by evading mandatory customs protocols.

According to a press statement released by Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet, the vehicles were being used illegally across various wards of the metropolitan area. The operation was initiated following reports of a surge in the movement of vehicles lacking proper legal documentation and customs clearance.

The estimated market value of the confiscated scooters stands at approximately 1,920,000 NPR. Officials noted that these vehicles were smuggled through various border points over several dates in the month of Baisakh, undermining the national revenue system and local transport regulations.

Following the seizure, the Parsa Police officially handed over all 24 units to the Birgunj Customs Office on May 7, 2026 (Baisakh 24, 2083), for further legal proceedings. The customs authorities will now lead the investigation to determine the individuals or networks responsible for this large-scale tax evasion.

This enforcement action highlights the heightened vigilance along the border regions to curb the flow of contraband and unauthorized imports. Authorities have indicated that such operations will continue to ensure that all commercial vehicles operating within the district adhere strictly to Nepalese law and customs requirements.
