Kathmandu — A complaint has been lodged with the police requesting an impartial investigation into financial transparency of relief funds collected during natural disasters and compliance with the government's 'single-door system'. The complaint, registered online, specifically demands an inquiry into whether activist Bedika KC used personal or family bank accounts in her relief campaign, as well as the official source of the relief materials. This police application is merely a demand for investigation and fact-finding, and does not prove anyone guilty. The applicant presented drawing the attention of official bodies to whether financial accountability, legal procedures, and government policies were followed during disaster management as the duty of a conscious citizen.

Meanwhile, activist Bedika KC has refuted all allegations against her. Speaking to the media in a somewhat sharp and angry tone, KC claimed that her character was assassinated by broadcasting news regarding the police complaint and helicopter charters. Clarifying that she did not collect unauthorized funds through any personal QR code or family bank accounts, she informed that the main source of the relief materials she is distributing is 'Mamaghar Anathalaya Ashram'. Stating that her character was being defamed without proof, she even warned of taking legal action to protect her dignity and reputation.

When contacting Mamaghar Anathalaya Ashram to understand the source of relief materials, a telephone operator there confirmed activist KC's involvement in the relief distribution campaign. However, representatives of the ashram did not clearly specify whether there was any plan or coordination to charter a private helicopter for transporting relief supplies. It is worth noting that Mamaghar Anathalaya Ashram itself operates based on donations and support from the general public and donors.

Apart from the issue of financial opacity, stakeholders have also expressed concern over other policy matters regarding disaster management. Disseminating details on social media about poor road conditions, landslides, and the inability to fly helicopters without official coordination with local administration and security agencies risks creating unnecessary fear and panic among relatives and the general public in affected areas. Similarly, transporting relief individually without informing the District Disaster Management Committee affects the government's rescue and distribution mechanism's 'single-door policy', making the task of delivering relief to actual victims complex.
