Kathmandu. Jay Shah, who claims to be 'Kalki', the final avatar of Lord Vishnu, has provided an important suggestion to Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) to end the widespread shortage of cooking LPG gas in the country. Issuing a message via social media, he put forward an innovative concept of using ethanol produced domestically from sugarcane and organic matter as an alternative to imported LPG gas.
In the context of Nepal importing LPG gas worth billions of rupees every year, Jay Shah stated that ethanol produced from domestic sugarcane and molasses (jaggery) can be used as cooking fuel. According to him, ethanol can be produced from sugarcane through molasses and sugar, and used in specially manufactured ethanol stoves. He claimed that based on the efficiency of the stove, nearly 32 to 38 liters of ethanol provides energy equivalent to a 14.2 kg LPG gas cylinder.
Adopting this policy would reduce dependence on imported gas, and sugarcane farmers as well as local sugar and ethanol industries would gain new markets. The message mentions that this will help retain a large amount of money inside the country spent on purchasing fuel, increase the income of Nepali farmers, and maximize the utilization of renewable agricultural resources.
However, stating that general consumers cannot use ethanol or surgical spirit in regular LPG or kerosene stoves and that a specially certified ethanol stove is required for this, he urged technical caution. He drew Prime Minister Balen Shah's attention to taking concrete steps to end the obligation of relying on foreign LPG gas despite the vast potential for domestic fuel production.
