US-based technology giant Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the introduction of the iPhone Duo, marking the biggest design shift to the iPhone lineup since its inception. Announced at Apple's latest product event led by new Chief Executive Officer John Ternus, the device was unveiled alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max series. Shaped like a passport when closed, the flagship handset unfolds into an ultra-thin canvas designed to bridge the functional gap between a smartphone and a tablet.
The iPhone Duo incorporates a 5.4-inch outer cover screen and opens into a 7.6-inch folding inner display that is 50 percent larger than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Built with a titanium frame and rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, the handset utilizes a redesigned hinge mechanism alongside a nanotexture finish to minimize the display crease. Departing from traditional facial recognition, the hardware relies on Touch ID integrated directly into the side power button or authentication via an Apple Watch, while also offering support for the USB-C Apple Pencil later this year.
Under the hood, the device is powered by Apple's next-generation A20 Pro chip and features the custom-designed Apple C2 cellular modem, which leverages artificial intelligence to enhance signal reliability alongside Wi-Fi 7 compatibility. To maximize internal battery capacity, the manufacturer has eliminated physical SIM trays worldwide in favor of an eSIM-only system. Power is supplied by a dual-battery architecture that delivers up to 24 hours of mixed dual-screen usage and supports fast charging to 50 percent capacity in approximately 20 minutes.

The camera setup features 48-megapixel Dual Fusion main and ultra-wide lenses equipped with a physical aperture ring for manual lighting and depth-of-field adjustments, as well as an automated Smart Take feature for hands-free group photography. However, unlike the iPhone 18 Pro models, the foldable device lacks a dedicated telephoto lens, capping its optical zoom capability at 2x.
