A recreational outing turned into a perilous situation on Fewa Lake this Monday as sudden weather changes stranded a group of five Indian nationals. The tourists were caught in a wooden boat near the Pumdi Bhumdi Lakehouse area in Pokhara Metropolitan City-22 when intense winds and turbulent waves began to lash the water.
According to official reports, the rescued individuals have been identified as Lalitha Kembagi, Yallesha, Praveena Kale, Bhaskar Yallesh Kale, and Neelakanksha. The group was unable to navigate back to safety as the weather conditions deteriorated rapidly on May 7 (Baishakh 24).
The rescue operation was launched immediately after the Fewa Lake Watch and Rescue Tower received an emergency alert regarding the distressed vessel. A specialized team from the Armed Police Force, led by Assistant Inspector Devendra KC, deployed to the site to intercept the drifting boat.
The security personnel successfully reached the tourists and escorted them back to the shore without any reported injuries. This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of mountain weather and the critical role of the permanent rescue stations stationed at the lake.
Local authorities continue to monitor weather patterns closely to ensure the safety of water activities for visitors in the Pokhara region.
