India Hands Over First Batch of Election Vehicles to Nepal
India has formally initiated its election-related logistical support for Nepal ahead of the upcoming polls, underlining the operational dimension of bilateral cooperation during critical democratic processes.
At a handover ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the first tranche of assistance was transferred to Nepal’s Home Ministry. The consignment includes more than 60 double-cab pickup vehicles along with additional supplies requested by the Government of Nepal to support election preparations.

The vehicles were handed over by Dr. Rakesh Pandey, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of India, to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal. According to the official press release, the support is intended to strengthen logistical readiness across agencies involved in the election process.

Minister Aryal expressed appreciation to the Government and people of India, noting that such assistance reflects the depth and continuity of Nepal–India relations. He acknowledged that logistical support plays a practical role in ensuring smoother election management, particularly in geographically challenging areas.

India has been extending election-related assistance to Nepal since 2008, responding to formal requests from the Nepali government. Over the years, around 2,400 vehicles have been provided for use by various ministries, departments, and the Election Commission. For the forthcoming elections alone, India has committed approximately 650 vehicles, to be delivered in multiple phases over the coming weeks.

Officials from both sides described the ongoing support as part of a broader, multi-sectoral development partnership, emphasizing that such cooperation also reflects sustained mutual trust between the two neighboring countries as Nepal moves toward another electoral exercise.
