Nepal Gifts Two Asian Elephants to Qatar to Deepen Bilateral Ties
Doha, Qatar — Two Asian elephants gifted by the government and people of Nepal have arrived at Al Khor Park, marking a significant gesture of goodwill and cooperation between Nepal and the State of Qatar, the Ministry of Municipality announced.

The gift follows through on a commitment made during the official visit of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Nepal in 2024, and is intended to underscore the longstanding diplomatic ties and friendly relations between the two nations.
The elephants—one male and one female—were bred at the Elephant Breeding and Training Center in Sauraha, within Nepal’s Chitwan National Park. The female elephant, Rudra Kali, is seven years old and weighs approximately 1,200 kilograms, while the six-year-old male, Khagendra Prasad, weighs around 1,190 kilograms. Both animals are dark grey in colour.

According to the Ministry, the elephants were transported to their new enclosure at Al Khor Park immediately after arriving in Doha on the evening of Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Officials stated that the elephants are well trained, exhibit calm temperaments, and are capable of interacting positively with both their surroundings and visitors. Their ability to adapt quickly is expected to enhance the educational, tourism, and recreational offerings of Al Khor Park, adding value to the overall visitor experience.
The initiative has been described by Qatari authorities as both a cultural and diplomatic milestone, reflecting shared respect for wildlife conservation and people-to-people connections between Nepal and Qatar.
