A Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) worker has begun a fast-unto-death at Rajbiraj in Saptari, claiming he faced injustice from the police. Dipesh Thakur, a resident of Bodebarsain Municipality-8, started the hunger strike at Gajendra Narayan Singh Chowk in Rajbiraj on Wednesday. Thakur was released on Tuesday from the District Administration Office Saptari on a bail of 5,000.
Alleging that he was subjected to physical and mental torture by the police administration, Thakur has demanded a clear answer and justice regarding the incident. According to him, his hunger strike will continue until he receives official answers to his three main questions.
According to Thakur, on the night of July 27, while waiting for a friend in the Kharchuya market area of Saptari, a minor argument broke out with the police. He alleged that when he tried to record a video of the incident, police personnel including ASI Kishor Kumar Mandal, who was on duty, beat him up and snatched his mobile phone. He further accused them of detaining him for eight days under an indecent behavior case while subjecting him to physical and mental torture. He claimed that he was on a hunger strike even while in custody.
Stating that using force based on a minor dispute, mistreating someone in custody, and harming a citizen's dignity are serious matters in a state governed by the rule of law, Thakur demanded that the relevant authorities conduct an impartial investigation into the incident, take action against the guilty, and provide justice to the victim.
Meanwhile, Chief of the District Police Office Saptari, Superintendent of Police Rupak Khadka, said that the District Police Office is coordinating with Thakur's family members. The youth on hunger strike is also an IT engineer.
