In a move to deepen bilateral relations, the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, and the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, held a formal meeting on Thursday. The discussions centered around advancing legislative cooperation and reinforcing longstanding ties between the two neighboring nations.

During the session, Speaker Aryal noted that the current government—backed by a robust public mandate—has successfully completed its first 100 days in office. He extended his gratitude to the Government of India for providing crucial logistical assistance during the recently concluded general elections. Highlighting that the Nepal-India bond is anchored in a shared civilization, geographical proximity, and rich socio-cultural ties, Aryal emphasized that existing bilateral frameworks continue to strengthen cooperation across trade, security, aviation, water resources, and connectivity.

To further elevate legislative engagement, Speaker Aryal announced the establishment of a 10-member Nepal-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, which will be spearheaded by Bipin Acharya. He expressed confidence that this newly formed committee will inject fresh momentum into inter-parliamentary collaboration.

Responding to the initiative, Ambassador Srivastava conveyed that the Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha, Om Birla, is eager to visit Nepal. Additionally, the Ambassador extended an official invitation to Speaker Aryal and Nepali lawmakers to visit India to observe and study its parliamentary systems. Srivastava reiterated that high-level political dialogues and robust parliamentary diplomacy remain vital for elevating bilateral ties, reaffirming New Delhi's ongoing commitment to partner with Nepal in sectors such as commerce, connectivity, energy, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
