Indian Army Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth concluded an official four-day visit to Nepal from August 16 to 19, 2026, aimed at strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and security ties. Upon his arrival in Kathmandu on August 16, General Seth was received by senior officials of the Nepali Army and representatives from the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.

On August 17, General Seth paid homage to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel before receiving a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters. He met with Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel to discuss expanding defence cooperation and handed over vehicles and medical equipment to enhance disaster preparedness and humanitarian response capabilities.

In accordance with long-standing bilateral tradition, the President of Nepal conferred upon General Seth the Honorary Rank of General of the Nepali Army during a ceremony at Shital Niwas. Following the investiture ceremony, General Seth called on President Ram Chandra Paudel.

Continuing his itinerary on August 18, General Seth visited the Nepali Army Command and Staff College at Shivapuri to interact with students and faculty members. He later held a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Nepal, focusing discussions on the longstanding partnership between the two countries, particularly defence cooperation.

On August 19, General Seth traveled to Pokhara to interact with Indian Army veterans, expressing appreciation for their dedication and service. During the event, Veer Naris and gallantry awardees were felicitated, mobility equipment was distributed to ex-servicemen, and the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme Polyclinic at Kohalpur was dedicated to support veteran healthcare in Nepal.

The four-day visit served to reinforce multifaceted relations between India and Nepal while laying the groundwork for continued security cooperation across various defence domains.
