Actor and comedian Dipak Raj Giri has spoken out against what he describes as the growing culture of performative politics on social media, distancing himself from online campaigns driven by insults, praise, and engagement metrics.
In a Facebook post, Giri said he has no interest in gaining popularity by criticizing political leader KP Sharma Oli, nor does he seek increased likes by publicly praising Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah. According to the actor, political positioning motivated by social media attention distracts from meaningful change.
Giri emphasized that he stands for change, but argued that transformation does not come from Facebook likes or comment counts. His remarks reflect a broader unease among public figures about online activism that prioritizes visibility over substance.
The statement has drawn attention for challenging the role of social media as a space for political validation, especially at a time when online reactions often shape public discourse.
