Call for Book Donations at PM's Residence: Should Purchase Be Encouraged Instead?

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that his official residence, Baluwatar, will be open every day from 3 PM to 4 PM for those bringing books. This arrangement has been made for the People's Library, established by his wife, Radhika Shakya, as per her social media post.

In this context, senior cardiologist Dr. Bhagawan Koirala has donated his book 'Hriday' to the library. The Prime Minister has also provided a contact number, urging those unable to visit Baluwatar to reach out to Uday Pokharel at 9849598257.

However, with rising voices advocating for purchasing books instead, it is argued that the Prime Minister and his wife should refrain from calling for donations. The small earnings received by authors and publishers from book sales contribute to the economy and encourage them to continue their work. Supporting authors through purchases is a more sustainable way to show respect and value for their contributions.
