Donald Trump has sharply criticized the Grammy Awards and warned of possible legal action against host Trevor Noah following a joke made during the ceremony that referenced Trump, Bill Clinton, and Jeffrey Epstein’s private island.
In a post on Truth Social early Monday, Trump described the Grammys as “virtually unwatchable” and accused Noah of making an incorrect claim by suggesting that Trump had spent time on Epstein’s island. Trump stated that while he could not speak for Clinton, he had never visited the island and rejected such claims outright.
The president also directed personal criticism at Noah, indicating that his legal team could pursue a lawsuit seeking financial damages. The remarks followed a quip delivered by Noah while introducing the song of the year award, where he made a comparison involving Greenland and Epstein’s now-infamous island.
The controversy emerged days after the U.S. Justice Department released more than three million pages of documents related to Epstein, the convicted sex offender. Some of the files contain references to high-profile individuals, including Trump and Clinton. Both have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or travel to Epstein’s island.
Trump has previously said he declined an invitation from Epstein to visit the island, describing the decision as a moment of sound judgment. Clinton has also denied ever being there.
The Grammys ceremony, broadcast Sunday on CBS, also featured criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration policies. Several artists used their acceptance speeches to speak against federal immigration enforcement, including Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny, who made remarks supporting migrants and opposing ICE operations.
CNN reported that it has contacted Trevor Noah for comment.
