In the wake of CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s detention, Party Vice-Chairman Raghuji Pant has publicly challenged the validity of the charges. Arriving at the party headquarters in Chyasal for an emergency Secretariat meeting, Pant informed journalists that the legal sections invoked against the former Prime Minister lack any substantive basis. He characterized the arrest as a grave matter executed without a logical legal foundation.
The Vice-Chairman emphasized that the CPN-UML is currently reviewing the situation to launch a robust legal defense. Pant stated that the specific legal provisions cited by the authorities do not hold up to scrutiny, suggesting the move is more political than procedural. According to Pant, the party will not remain silent and is prepared to counter the state's actions through the judicial system.
As the Secretariat meeting concludes, the party is expected to unveil a comprehensive strategy. Pant noted that while the current situation is undoubtedly serious, the next phase of the UML's response—ranging from legal battles to political maneuvers—will be formalized during today's high-level discussions. The outcome of this meeting will dictate the party's future trajectory in resisting what they term an "unfounded" arrest.
