KATHMANDU — According to the health report from the Military Hospital (Chhauni), Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) will participate in the parliament's question-and-answer program wearing dark sunglasses. Appearing in the parliamentary Q&A for the first time per the rules after becoming Prime Minister, Balen's dark sunglasses avatar has recalled the popular song sung by Indian singer of Nepali origin Udit Narayan Jha: "Kalo chashma lau hai maiya bishal bazaar ko, dar lagchha baru malai lobhi najar ko..." In the initial days, Prime Minister Shah had not shown much interest in the parliamentary Q&A. Even after months passed since parliament began and the government was formed, this situation was created only after Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, who had been sitting in fear, issued a ruling fearfully after a long time. While discussions persist that the Speaker took such a strict step under the direction of Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, the context of wearing dark sunglasses and being afraid of facing parliament appears to align closely with this song by Udit Narayan.

According to Parliament Secretariat Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Ekram Giri, PM Shah had his eyes examined at the Military Hospital in Chhauni on Shrawan 22. Since the examination showed difficulty looking at bright light with naked eyes, the hospital's report stating the need to wear dark sunglasses was submitted to the Parliament Secretariat on Shrawan 26. Earlier, Speaker Aryal had instructed through party whips not to wear dark sunglasses, and if necessary, to mandatorily submit a medical examination report. Complying with that rule, the Prime Minister is presenting himself in parliament today with the military hospital report.

The direct question-and-answer with the Prime Minister is the main agenda of the House of Representatives meeting called for today at 1.00 PM after being adjourned on Tuesday. According to Rule 56 of the House of Representatives Rules of Procedure, the Speaker designates the first hour of one day in the first week of the month for Q&A with the Prime Minister. Pursuant to Rule 58, 11 lawmakers who registered questions by Bhadra 5 will ask direct questions to PM Shah today, and as per Rule 57, it will be broadcast live. Additionally, today's meeting agenda includes presenting the 7th annual report of the Muslim Commission, submitting the Nepal-India Long-Term Power Trade Agreement, and conducting meetings of various parliamentary committees.
