A new institutional step has been taken in Pokhara to combat urban waste issues and elevate ecological awareness. The "Waste Management Campaign Pokhara, Manipal Branch" was officially established on Saturday under the leadership of Dr. Krishna Murari Adhikari. This newly formed unit will focus heavily on increasing environmental sensitization and active community involvement across Wards 11 and 20.
The launch event was spearheaded by Rajan Shrestha, the central coordinator of the Waste Management Campaign Pokhara. During the gathering, Shiva Prasad Bastola, the waste management coordinator for Pokhara-11, welcomed the attendees and emphasized that preserving the ecosystem requires a unified, collective approach from all residents.
Sharing his field expertise, veteran environmental campaigner Balram Baral noted that local awareness remains the most critical pillar for sustainable waste processing in any geographic area. Without active participation from the grassroots level, structural solutions often fall short of their intended impact.
Highlighting the economic side of ecological preservation, Durga Adhikari, a social mobilizer from Clean Up Nepal, briefed participants on the ongoing GCRU project. The initiative prioritizes recycling and upcycling mechanisms to foster green employment. She added that collaborative ventures with multiple civic organizations are being executed to run environment-friendly programs.
The newly formed Manipal branch has committed to implementing regular sanitation drives and community-level awareness initiatives. According to the newly appointed coordinator, Dr. Krishna Murari Adhikari, the branch will continuously design programs focused on waste reduction and enhancing social responsibility among citizens.
Concluding the session, event chair Rajan Shrestha revealed that this establishment marks the first milestone in a broader strategy to expand the campaign's network across all civic sectors in Pokhara. Participants collectively agreed that a sustained, collaborative movement is essential to achieving a cleaner, greener, and well-managed city.
