The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has sounded a high-alert warning for several provinces as a powerful weather system prepares to sweep across Nepal. According to official forecasts, high-velocity winds and stormy conditions are set to impact daily life, infrastructure, and public safety starting Wednesday evening.
Authorities have identified high-risk zones including Morang in Koshi Province, and Dhanusha and Bara in Madhesh Province. The alert also extends to Banke, Bardiya, Dang, and Arghakhanchi in Lumbini Province, alongside Dadeldhura and Doti in Sudurpashchim. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology predicts the system will initiate at approximately 5:45 PM on Wednesday, persisting until 7:45 AM on Friday.
The potential for significant damage is high, with the NDRRMA warning of falling trees, structural collapses of weak buildings, and roof damage. Critical services, including electricity and communication networks, are expected to face disruptions as the system moves from west to east, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and possible hail.
To mitigate casualties, the government has released a strict safety protocol. Citizens are urged to remain indoors, secure loose roofing materials, and stay clear of tall trees or electric poles. Precautionary measures also include avoiding open fires and remaining vigilant against flying debris that could cause physical injury.
As the weather system progresses, the public is advised to monitor official updates from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Maintaining constant awareness of these forecasts is essential for navigating the window of high risk and ensuring community-wide safety.
