The Nepali men's cricket team clinical performance secured their spot in the final of the Asian Games Qualifier. They achieved a dominant eight-wicket victory over Oman during the semifinal clash held at the Singa Oval Ground on Sunday morning.
According to tournament reports, Nepal easily chased down a modest target of 95 runs. The team wrapped up the game in just 9.2 over while losing only two wickets.
Unbeaten batsman Lokesh Bam led the aggressive run chase for Nepal, hammering a blistering 44 runs. Skipper Rohit Paudel offered solid support at the other end with an undefeated 21 runs. Earlier in the innings, opener Kushal Bhurtel contributed 20 runs, while his partner Aasif Sheikh fell early after scoring a single run.
The foundation for this comfortable victory was laid by the Nepali bowlers, who completely dismantled Oman's batting lineup. After electing to bat first, Oman struggled against Nepal’s disciplined bowling attack and was bundled out for a mere 94 runs in 19.4 overs. Oman's captain Sufiyan Mehmood top-scored for his side with 38 runs, followed by Zubaer Ali Akbar, who managed 22 runs.
Karan KC emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Nepal, claiming three crucial wickets. Spin sensation Sandeep Lamichhane and pacer Sompal Kami heavily restricted the opposition by picking up two wickets each, while Shahab Alam, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Kushal Malla chipped in with one wicket apiece.
While all four semifinalists, including Nepal, have successfully earned their tickets to the upcoming Asian Games, the Rhinos will now fight for the tournament silverware. Nepal is scheduled to face the winner of the afternoon semifinal encounter between Hong Kong and Malaysia in the grand finale.
