London-based campaigner Sujan Katuwal MBE has formally presented emergency relief funds raised in the United Kingdom to Nepal's Finance Minister, Hon. Dr. Swarnim Wagle, to support ongoing flood relief and recovery efforts across Nepal.

The funds were collected through the Nepal Flood Emergency Appeal, launched by Katuwal and his team at PANAS Gurkha Restaurant and Panas Helping Hands in Blackheath, following devastating floods in Nepal. The fundraising initiative received support from customers, local community members, civic representatives, and high-profile figures, including Dame Joanna Lumley, who joined a moving candlelight vigil held at the restaurant.

Following the handover of funds, Katuwal plans to personally visit flood-affected regions to inspect the situation, engage with local residents, and identify areas requiring long-term rehabilitation support. Stressing the necessity of direct engagement, Katuwal stated, “Compassion must be accompanied by action. I want to be present, listen to the affected communities and understand how we can help them recover and rebuild.”

This humanitarian initiative builds on Katuwal's ongoing commitment to community service, which includes delivering over 250,000 free meals to healthcare workers, Gurkha veterans, and vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside continuing weekly hot meal distribution for London's homeless. His public service contributions were officially recognized in January 2026, when HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, conferred him with an MBE.

Looking ahead, Katuwal's efforts will transition back to London this November as PANAS participates in the historic Lord Mayor's Show 2026 to showcase Nepalese culture and over 200 years of Gurkha heritage alongside the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas and local partners.

This continued collaboration demonstrates how diaspora-led initiatives can foster long-term resilience and solidarity during critical periods of national crisis.
