The ANFA Women’s League kicked off with dominant performances, as departmental side Tribhuvan Army Club and Sankata Club set the early tone with convincing victories in Lalitpur.
According to match reports, Sankata overwhelmed New Road Team (NRT) 4–0, with three of their goals coming from foreign players. Myanmar’s Win Theingi Tun, Mozambique’s Lucia Jose, and Ghana’s Quinabel Akosua found the net, highlighting the growing influence of international signings in the competition.
Army followed with an even more emphatic 5–0 win over Jhapa FC, although the contest remained tight until the second half. Jhapa managed to hold off attacks early, but a tactical shift by Army coach Raju Tamang after the break changed the game’s momentum.
Deepa Shahi opened the scoring in the 57th minute, and sustained pressure soon led to further goals from Hima Chaudhary and Anjana Thulung Rai, who scored twice after coming off the bench. Defensive lapses in the closing stages allowed Army to extend the margin, sealing a comprehensive win.
The opening results underline a competitive season ahead, with established contenders and emerging squads battling for dominance. The league, featuring nine teams, will continue in a single round-robin format, with expectations of strong challenges among departmental and club sides.
