Friendship on Wheels: India Gifts Electric Vehicles to Nepal for Sagarmatha Sambaad, Bolstering Green Talks

Kathmandu – In a warm gesture reflecting the deep bonds of friendship and goodwill, India has gifted 15 electric vehicles to the Government of Nepal. The handover, a practical demonstration of support, took place today in Kathmandu, aimed at enhancing the logistical arrangements for the upcoming 'Sagarmatha Sambaad'.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Shri Naveen Srivastava, personally handed over the keys to Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba. The vehicles are intended to smooth the path for delegates and officials participating in the first edition of the Sambaad, scheduled from May 16 to 18, 2025.
The theme of this year's dialogue – 'Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity' – makes the gift of electric vehicles particularly poignant. Choosing green transportation for discussions centered on the environment underscores a shared commitment to sustainability, adding a layer of meaningful connection to the practical support.
Ambassador Srivastava, speaking at the handover ceremony, highlighted the ease these quiet, emission-free vehicles would bring to the movement of guests during the crucial three-day event. He fondly recalled India's similar logistical support during Nepal's federal and provincial elections in 2022, emphasizing the spirit of enduring partnership. Extending his best wishes for a successful Sambaad, he reaffirmed India's unwavering commitment to walking alongside Nepal on the path of mutual progress and development.
Receiving the generous gift, Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba conveyed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Government of Nepal. She spoke of India not just as a neighbor, but as one of Nepal's oldest and most trusted development partners, acknowledging the significant role India has played over the years.
This act of providing modern, eco-friendly transportation goes beyond simple logistics. It symbolizes the vibrant, multi-faceted partnership between India and Nepal, a relationship deeply rooted in the close ties between their people. Gifts like these vehicles tangible evidence of India's continued support in fostering stronger connections and shared progress between the two nations.
