Gagan Thapa Slams PM Oli: “The Government Has Failed to Deliver”

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has admitted that the government has failed to deliver as expected.
Speaking at an event organized by the Nepali Congress in Kathmandu on Thursday, Thapa expressed disappointment, stating that the political mechanism formed by the government is not being properly heeded.
"The pace at which the government should be working is not being met. I am also involved in the mechanism. Its purpose is to push for necessary policy reforms by the government," Thapa said. "We are trying to support the KP Sharma Oli-led government to ensure it performs well. But just heating the pot doesn’t help; the fire beneath it also has to burn."
Thapa added that he frequently questions the performance of the current coalition government led jointly by UML and Congress because it has not achieved the desired outcomes.
‘The Kings Never Tolerated Our Respect for Constitutional Monarchy’
Thapa also declared that former King Gyanendra Shah can, under no circumstance, become a constitutional monarch. While the Nepali Congress has always respected the idea of a constitutional monarchy, he said the monarchs themselves never appreciated that respect.
"When BP Koirala was charged with treason and multiple cases, he still carried on with dignity. When Girija Babu was pelted with stones, he still defended the constitutional monarchy. But the kings always chose to retaliate by hurting the Congress," Thapa remarked.
He emphasized that the party, through its long history and struggle, has come to the firm conclusion that a constitutional monarchy is no longer viable.
Thapa accused former King Gyanendra of inciting unrest from his residence at Nirmal Niwas. "Even while staying at Nirmal Niwas, he is causing this much chaos in Kathmandu. Just imagine what it would be like if he were back in Narayanhiti," he said.
"No matter how much you try to cleanse him, Shah is not fit to be a constitutional monarch," Thapa concluded.
