India delivers 70-meter modular bridge to Nepal, boosting vital post-disaster connectivity

Hetauda – India has handed over a 70-meter modular bridge along with specialized launching tools to Nepal, reinforcing post-disaster road connectivity in regions affected by severe rains. The handover took place on 20 November 2025 in Hetauda, where the Ambassador of India to Nepal formally presented the complete bridge set to Nepal’s Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

Following the devastating rains of October 2025 that badly impacted eastern Nepal, the Government of Nepal had requested support for emergency connectivity. In response, the Government of India committed to providing ten modular Bailey bridges of 70 meters and higher span, worth over NPR 73 crore, on a grant basis.

The modular bridge handed over today will be dispatched immediately to Ramechhap, one of the districts where road links were cut off due to heavy rainfall and landslides.

India’s support builds on earlier assistance provided after the September 2024 floods and landslides, when it supplied ten prefabricated steel bridges worth NPR 41 crore; four of them have already been installed.

During the ceremony, the Indian Ambassador highlighted that these modular bridges and launching tools stand as a testimony to the enduring India–Nepal friendship and reflect India’s continued support for Nepal’s infrastructure development and post-disaster reconstruction.

The Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport expressed gratitude for India’s sustained and substantial assistance. He noted that the quick-to-assemble nature of the bridges, along with the provision of launching tools, will significantly accelerate emergency reconstruction efforts. He assured that the newly received bridge will be put into operation quickly.

The Government of India reiterated its commitment to continue supporting the people and Government of Nepal in reconstruction and disaster-mitigation efforts.
