Opposition Parties Strategize to Form New Coalition Government, Targeting PM Oli’s Leadership

According to reliable sources, Nepal's major opposition parties are orchestrating a strategic move to challenge Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's government and position the Nepali Congress at the heart of a new political alliance. This emerging strategy focuses on creating a new coalition under the leadership of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, aiming to shift the power dynamics in the country.

Opposition leaders are actively working to weaken Oli’s government, positioning the Nepali Congress as the leading contender for power. Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), is reportedly spearheading the efforts to destabilize Oli’s administration and promote Deuba as the central figure of a new coalition government.

Prachanda has been vocal against the two-party dominance of the UML (CPN-UML) and Nepali Congress, arguing that such a system would pave the way for authoritarianism, which, he asserts, is unacceptable. During a joint meeting of his party’s Disciplinary Commission, Election Commission, and Audit Commission on Wednesday, Prachanda emphasized the need to unite opposition forces to counter what he described as the government's "anti-people actions."

Agni Sapkota, spokesperson for the CPN (Maoist Centre), further highlighted that opposition forces would be mobilized against corruption, misgovernance, and the erosion of democratic values under Oli’s leadership. According to him, the current government’s behavior shows clear signs of leading the country towards authoritarian rule, which has raised concerns among opposition leaders.

Previously, Prachanda accused Oli's government of shielding corruption and protecting criminals, and now, he is focused on strengthening the Socialist Front by uniting smaller parties in opposition. The coalition includes the Maoist Centre, CPN (Unified Socialist), the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led CPN, and the Nepal Socialist Party, among others, all aiming to fortify their stance against Oli’s administration.

Prime Minister Oli, however, has dismissed the opposition's efforts, asserting that they will not succeed in destabilizing his government. During a CPN-UML politburo meeting on Tuesday, Oli reiterated his government's commitment to working for the people and advancing economic reforms for a prosperous Nepal. "The government is doing well, but within just three months, certain political elements and anarchist forces are trying to create instability in society. Despite these challenges, we are moving forward," Oli stated.

As this political struggle intensifies, opposition parties are racing to unseat Oli’s government and establish a new coalition, while Oli remains firm in his claims of maintaining stability and continuing his administration's development agenda. The battle for control of Nepal's government appears to be heating up, with both sides preparing for a showdown in the near future.
