Doctor's Rape and Immediate Murder in Hospital: High Court Orders CBI Probe!
In a shocking turn of events, the Kolkata High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College. This decision was handed down by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam after reviewing the case files on Tuesday.
Last Friday, the lifeless body of a female doctor was discovered on the fourth floor of the emergency ward at RG Kar Medical College, causing an uproar across the state. Accusations of rape and murder led junior doctors at RG Kar to launch protests and sit-ins, soon joined by other medical professionals. The movement quickly spread beyond RG Kar Medical College to other hospitals across the state and even gained support from doctors nationwide.
Several shocking details have emerged in the investigation. Police have arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the case, though no evidence of other accomplices has been found yet. The accused was presented before the Sealdah Court on Saturday, where the judge remanded him to 14 days in police custody.
The RG Kar incident prompted multiple public interest litigations in the High Court, which were heard by the Chief Justice’s bench on Tuesday. The petitions put forward three primary demands: first, that the investigation be conducted by an impartial agency like the CBI or another independent body, free from state influence. Second, the immediate identification and punishment of those involved in the crime. Third, the installation of CCTV cameras in all government hospitals, particularly at the main entrances on every floor.
With this directive, there is hope for a thorough and unbiased investigation that will bring justice to the victim's family.
