RSP Power Struggle: Why Swarnim Waglé is the Heavyweight Leader Nepal Needs!

In the midst of an ongoing dispute within the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) regarding the selection of an acting president, Dr. Swarnim Waglé has emerged as a figure of considerable interest and support. Known for his exceptional economic expertise and well-established international relationships, Waglé is viewed by many within the party as the ideal candidate for leadership. As a senior vice president in the party and a widely respected economist, he has not only maintained but also strengthened ties with international communities, including China, India, and the Western nations. His diplomatic skill and seasoned international perspective, cultivated through years of economic diplomacy, have made him a heavy favorite among several RSP members.

One RSP cadre voiced his support clearly, stating, “Let's support him in leadership.” He added, “Dr. Waglé even visited the Indian embassy a day before Ravi Lamichhane's arrest as part of a festival celebration. He has also met with Modi, but this shouldn't be grounds to demonize him. His presence in such settings doesn’t justify painting him in a negative light.”

Dr. Waglé’s approach to fostering relationships with India was highlighted during his visit to the Indian embassy, which, according to those close to him, was a simple cultural exchange and a mark of his diplomatic openness. His earlier interactions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also underscore his capability in maintaining a balanced foreign policy stance for Nepal, benefiting both the RSP and the broader national interests.

Supporters of Waglé argue that his candidacy as acting president shouldn't even be up for debate, given his experience and influence. “There should be no choice between Swarnim and Dol Prasad,” asserted another party member. “Swarnim is a heavyweight in all aspects. He should be the next in leadership.” The rift within RSP has brought out two primary contenders—Waglé and Dol Prasad Aryal. While Aryal has previously held acting roles, Waglé’s supporters argue that his vast experience on the global stage gives him a unique edge in leading the RSP forward.

As the RSP wrestles with its internal divisions, the question of leadership becomes crucial not only for the party but also for its future vision and direction. For those rallying behind Dr. Waglé, his proven expertise, solid relationships with Nepal’s key allies, and his reputation as an economist make him the right leader to steer RSP through these turbulent times.
