Ravi and News 24 TV Blackmail GB Rai, Letter Exposed in Media

GB Rai, the chairman of the Gorakh Media Network Pvt. Ltd., who has gone missing after allegedly embezzling billions from cooperative depositors, is currently on the run. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant for cooperative fraud, authorities have also released a diffusion notice against him.

Rai is accused of illegally transferring money to various private companies, including the Gorakh Media Network Pvt. Ltd., by establishing half a dozen cooperative organizations in major cities across the country with names starting with the letter ‘S.’ The Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee has recommended action against him. However, the police have been unable to determine Rai's whereabouts after he absconded with billions of rupees belonging to thousands of depositors.

The government had previously dispatched a police team from Nepal to search for Rai, who was believed to be in Malaysia. Unfortunately, the team returned empty-handed. Earlier, when Ravi Lamichhane was the Home Minister, he claimed to have located GB Rai in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, a letter has been received from GB Rai via email. In the letter, he expresses his willingness to return to Nepal to assist in the investigation and return the funds to the depositors, provided that the state ensures his safety.

The content of the letter is as follows:

"Hello, this message is sent on behalf of GB Rai. I am pleased with the ongoing investigation regarding the cooperatives. If the investigation proceeds in this direction, I will return shortly to facilitate it. Please create an environment that allows for this cooperation, as I have also sent a message to the parliamentary committee.

I wish to return the funds to the victims of the cooperative and live the rest of my life in peace. I request the state to create that environment. I have been unable to assist in the investigation due to my friends who have been arrested. My investments have only been with Gorakh Media.

Due to numerous ideas from Lamichhane, I have continued to fund his party and individuals. This matter should also be investigated. Friends have repeatedly pressured me not to return to Nepal, threatening my life if I attempted to assist in the investigation last year. They claimed that since all investigations would be conducted under their supervision, they would settle the case and extort money under various party and individual names.

Before I made any investments in the media, I was threatened into giving 20 million when I was previously acquainted with News 24. Later, Deepak Bohara, one of his associates, put forth conditions for investing in television, which prompted me to proceed. At a meeting of Yak & Yeti, Deepak and Ravi assured me that I could invest the cooperative's money and that they would also provide names and money.

When the TV did not perform, and I mentioned my intention to enter politics, I was afraid that my actions would be exposed, so I disclosed things that were not supposed to be revealed in the final episode. Shortly after, they warned me that I would face difficulties, and my name would be implicated. They suggested that we put the TV under someone else's name, specifically mentioning Yuvaraj Kadel. When I did not believe them, they brought up the name of another individual with the surname Baniya through someone else. After the proposal was not accepted by Baniya himself, it seemed as if the matter was dropped. As this issue started to surface, I constantly sought financial support for the party, saying, 'Why is Jibi worried?'

I also sent 30 million to another person with the surname Aryal in Japan. Mohan transferred funds to Ravi’s wife’s name from the USA, and he has also sent slips to my associates confirming that he transferred some funds to Ravi's other associate, Bipin Acharya.

During the by-election, I arranged to send 50 million to Mohan Thapa, who was in America. I sent Mohan that amount for Ravi. I later directed Mohan to send funds to those with the surname Baniya who were in America. Although the Baniya individuals always denied taking the money, I had sent around 120 million for the party while Ravi was still the Home Minister.

Through Deepak Bohara, I was threatened and warned not to come to Nepal or say anything. Now that Ravi is in custody, I feel that if the investigation proceeds correctly, I can return to Nepal and present my case. He should not be released. If he is charged, I will feel safe to come back and will provide all the assistance to return the depositors' funds. The state should cooperate! I am fully prepared to return all the funds to the depositors as promised."
