Youth leader Megha Shahi has registered her nomination for the position of central committee member representing the geography of Madhesh Province under the women's category at the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress.

Shahi stated that her candidacy aims to strengthen the party organization, increase meaningful youth participation in politics, and establish women's leadership at the central level. She expressed her commitment to effectively conveying the voice of the new generation to the decision-making levels of the party.

A resident of Jitpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City-21 in Bara district, Shahi has been actively involved in Nepali Congress politics. She previously contested for the post of deputy mayor of Jitpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City on behalf of the Nepali Congress during the 2022 local level elections, securing 15,842 votes, while CPN-UML candidate Bhola Prasad Adhikari won the election with 17,492 votes.

Coming from a political family background, Shahi is the daughter of Constituent Assembly member Madhu Shahi. Having competed in local elections, she has now presented her claim at the general convention with the objective of expanding her political role in the party's central leadership.

Her candidacy has intensified the debate surrounding the representation of women and youth leadership from Madhesh within the central hierarchy of the Nepali Congress. The upcoming convention election results determined by the votes of the general convention delegates will establish the strength of her leadership claim.
