Silence has fallen over the Gen Z leadership circle in Nepal following news reports that new-generation Gen Z youth leaders are under strict state surveillance and linked to geopolitical proximity. With the news coming out, relatives and friends of the young leaders have also begun showing serious concern regarding their safety and representation.

Meanwhile, a new controversy has arisen over the news. 'Nepal Aaja' had mentioned in its report that "Mahajit Ansari, who lives in a hostel in the Shantinagar area, is considered close to Bangladesh and Western nations, while Raksha Bam residing in Budhanilkantha and Ravi Kiran Hamal residing in the Kirtipur area are considered close to Western powers."

The key point to note is that the original news report did not use terms like 'agent' or 'spy' for any country, but merely mentioned being 'close' diplomatically or ideologically. However, youth leader Mahajit Ansari himself added the word 'agent' in his social media reaction and expressed strong objections against the media outlet.

Commenting on 'Nepal Aaja's' Facebook post, Ansari—known as a multifaceted, intellectual, and secular youth leader—wrote, "Does the state body know about this? How did you have the audacity, trash-nalist, to call me an agent of weak Bangladesh instead of powerful India? Either prove this allegation or be prepared to answer at the Press Council. Nepal Aaja!"

In the course of his rebuttal, Ansari distorted the word 'journalist' to use the derogatory term 'trash-nalist'. Commentary has begun pointing out that Ansari, known as a studious and intellectual youth leader, acted on impulse and anger without using his wisdom, and that using such low-level language does not align with his personality and image.

Following Ansari's furious comment, highly aggressive and angry reactions have also started pouring in from citizens on social media. Countering Ansari's comment, a Facebook user named Pradeep Pokharel wrote, "Majid Ansari, you are a traitor to the country, you should be expelled from the country!!"

The monitoring by state intelligence agencies, media reporting, and on top of that, the irresponsible statement given in anger by a supposedly intellectual youth leader along with public anger have made the atmosphere from the streets to digital platforms even more tense and complicated.
