Apple is planning a significant hardware upgrade by increasing the RAM capacity in its upcoming iPhone 18 series. According to the prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is making these critical hardware adjustments primarily to handle Apple Intelligence workloads more efficiently and quickly.

The low-end variants, specifically the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18E, will reportedly be equipped with 9GB of RAM. This marks a 1GB increase compared to the 8GB of RAM found in the current iPhone 17 series. Technically, Apple will achieve this 9GB configuration by utilizing six 1.5GB dies, and these basic models will be powered by Apple's new A20 chipset.

Concurrently, Apple's high-end models are also expected to see massive performance improvements. The reports indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Ultra models will come packed with 12GB of RAM, utilizing eight 1.5GB dies. These premium models will feature the more powerful A20 Pro chipset, and there are indications that Apple will also deploy 12GB of RAM in its future foldable iPhone.

The primary objective behind Apple increasing the RAM capacity across its smartphone lineup is to execute artificial intelligence tasks seamlessly without causing system bottlenecks. Because complex AI workloads demand substantial memory support, Apple is systematically preparing its next-generation devices to meet those computing requirements.
