The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has refuted recent media reports regarding an increase in internet and email service charges, clarifying that no approval has been granted for any fee hike. In an official press release issued from Kamaladi, Kathmandu on Ashwin 24, 2083 BS, the telecommunications regulator stated that internet and email service providers have not submitted any formal proposal to raise service fees.

The authority emphasized that service charges levied by telecommunications service providers for delivering services must remain fair and reasonable. According to the regulatory framework, licensed service providers are required to submit any proposed tariff revisions based on prescribed directives at least three months prior to the intended implementation date for formal review and approval. Once approved, service providers are legally obligated to publish the finalized tariff rates publicly in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Issuing a stern warning to service providers and stakeholders, the regulator cautioned that charging rates above approved limits, increasing fees without prior sanction, or operating unauthorized services to the detriment of consumers will result in strict action under the Telecommunications Act and relevant regulations. The authority further informed consumers that they can lodge formal complaints directly with the regulator if service providers demand fees exceeding approved rates or engage in illegal practices against public interest. Reaffirming its regulatory mandate, the governing body stated that it remains fully committed to protecting consumer rights, fostering fair competition, and maintaining regulated internet services across the country.
