India's domestic defense production and export sector have seen remarkable growth in recent years. According to international reports, India is now gradually emerging as a defense exporting power from being merely a large weapon importing nation. It is analyzed that the investment made in domestic technology development under the "Make in India" campaign has taken the Indian defense industry to new heights.
Particularly, the BrahMos supersonic missile, domestic drone systems, air defense technology, and state-of-the-art glide weapons have started attracting attention in the international market. After India's Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force recently successfully tested an indigenous glide weapon named "Tara," global interest in India's technical capability has increased even further.
Meanwhile, various nations in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East are showing interest in purchasing Indian defense equipment. In particular, the BrahMos missile agreement with Vietnam reaching its final stages is being viewed as a significant achievement of India's defense diplomacy. It is analyzed that India has now begun to become a strategic partner for many nations to balance China's growing military influence.
Along with the defense sector, India's technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability are also increasing their influence in the global market. Multinational companies have now started viewing India not merely as a cheap labor market, but as a center for research, intellectual property (IP), and high-technology development. Reports state that new intellectual property is being rapidly developed through the use of AI in India's engineering and technology hubs.
According to analysts, amid global power competition, many nations are looking for alternative defense partners to reduce their excessive dependence on China and Western powers. In this very situation, India seems to be succeeding in building an image of a "reliable, affordable, and strategic" defense supplier.
According to economists, the growth in defense exports could also become significant for India's economy. The expansion of domestic industries, job creation, and technology transfer in the defense production sector are expected to move India forward in the direction of an industrial superpower in the long term.
