A 16-member delegation from the United States, featuring prominent lawmakers, congressional staff, and military officials, arrived in Kathmandu yesterday from Paro, Bhutan, on a chartered Bhutan Airlines flight (B 37710). The diplomatic arrival underscores ongoing bilateral engagements in South Asia, though official channels have yet to release details on the visit's exact objectives.

The visiting team includes members of the U.S. House of Representatives alongside their spouses, committee staff, trade advisors, and defense liaisons. Key political figures in the group include Congressmen Jason Thomas Smith, David Sheridan Schweikert (accompanied by his wife, Joyce Rebecca Schweikert), William Andrew Ogles IV (accompanied by his wife, Monica Williams Ogles), and Congresswomen Elise Marie Stefanik and Lois Cyril Frankel.

Accompanying the lawmakers are core policy and administrative officials, including Matthew Paul Meyer, Staff Director for the House Committee on Ways and Means; Sung-Yoon Chang, Minority Trade Counsel for the House; Payson Samuel, Digital Director for the House; Hillary Margaret Pinegar, International Trade Policy Advisor; and Logan Richard Dobbins, Member Services Coordinator. The delegation also features defense and medical personnel, including Lieutenant Joshua Lowell Anderson of the Navy House Liaison Office, Sanon Elaine Goan from the Marine House Liaison Office (Special Assistant to the Secretary for Legislative Affairs), and Camille Coston-Ware from the Walter Reed Medical Center.

Upon landing, the team was received at the airport by senior officials from the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, including Chargé d’Affaires Megan Bouldin, Chief of the Political and Economic Section Catherine M. Leahy, and Political Affairs Specialist Georgia S. Watts. The group departed the airport at 11:30 AM yesterday in two embassy vehicles bearing diplomatic license plates, heading directly to the U.S. Embassy in Maharajgunj.

With neither the U.S. Embassy nor the Government of Nepal issuing official statements regarding the delegation's itinerary, diplomatic observers are watching closely for expected high-level discussions in the coming days.
