GenZ movement leader Sarisma Thapa has drawn the serious attention of the government, demanding legal action against top political leaders or the immediate release of all detained protesters. In a press statement issued on Asoj 20 in Kathmandu, Thapa criticized the state for subjecting participants of the Bhadra 23 and 24, 2082 GenZ movement to discriminatory and unjust treatment. She stated that while individuals accused of planning and leading the protests now hold key state posts, only ordinary participants remain imprisoned.
Thapa questioned the roles of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane, Speaker DP Aryal, and Minister Sudan Gurung. She alleged that these leaders provoked youth, incited violence, and either led or assisted in jailbreak attempts during the movement. Furthermore, Thapa pointed out that security officials who ordered shootings and used force against demonstrators have faced no effective action, while young protesters continue to suffer in jail.
Demanding equal legal treatment for all sides involved, Thapa insisted that legal proceedings must be initiated against Balendra Shah, Rabi Lamichhane, and Sudan Gurung. She asserted that if the government fails to take action against these figures, it must immediately release all arrested GenZ protesters. Additionally, she called for an impartial investigation and strict legal action against those responsible for suppressing the movement.
Thapa warned that failure by the state to address these concerns seriously could push the country toward another movement. She cautioned that any future uprising could take a far more severe form, urging all citizens to remain prepared for potential developments.
