KATHMANDU. It has been confirmed that the CG Group of Binod Chaudhary—a central committee member of the Nepali Congress, former parliamentarian, and Nepal's sole Forbes-listed dollar billionaire—has played a serious game with the health of Nepali consumers. This brand, which once established an empire where noodles meant Wai Wai and Wai Wai meant noodles, has now been found to be of low quality, meaning inedible, in government laboratory tests. This extreme negligence of the billionaire was brought to light due to the strict monitoring of food safety initiated since the formation of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Balendra Shah in the country, and the recent activeness of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control under the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene.
According to the latest details publicised by the department, noodles of four popular brands, including Wai Wai produced by CG Foods Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., Bansgadhi-3, Bardiya, have failed the department's inspection and laboratory tests. The department has instructed to immediately recall those batches of noodles from the market and not to sell or distribute them, as they cause serious impact on consumers' health. According to the official decision of the department, among the products found to be substandard, it mainly includes Wai Wai's batch number B/BM1-X-2026-05-14 (Production Date: 2026/05/14). Along with this, other products—Golmol's batch number B/BM2 D, 2083.01.11, Premium Piro's batch number B/BM2 C, 2083.01.28, and Mama noodles' batch number B/BM1-X-2026-05-13—have also been proven inedible.

Finding such a huge flaw in the Wai Wai brand, which innocent Nepali people consume blindly, clearly exposes the dollar billionaire's irresponsible and contemptuous attitude towards public health. Interestingly, some time ago on a television show, billionaire Binod Chaudhary’s son, Nirvana Chaudhary, himself had refused to eat Wai Wai, the product of his own industry, which indicates that the industrialist family itself was suspicious about its quality. This negligence seen in Chaudhary Group's Wai Wai is not the first, though. Previously, when Balendra Shah was the chief, meaning mayor, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the metropolis had also penalized Wai Wai noodles on April 24, 2024 (2081 Baishakh 12). At that time, a fine of 200,000 rupees was imposed after an excessive acid value was found during a quality test conducted under the leadership of the metropolitan city. Feeding inedible items to the public by repeating mistakes time and again is against the minimum business ethics of the industry.
Based on the laboratory report, the department has stated that the noodles of the said batches are inedible for human health and has forwarded legal action. Since the noodles of those batches were found to be substandard contrary to Section 16 (a) of the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081, an order has been issued to immediately stop sale and distribution, seize the entire stock from the market, and take it back in accordance with Sub-section (4) of Section 38 of the same Act.
