Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced during the studio's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 that a new Ghost Rider film is currently in development. The feature film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2028. Actor Ryan Gosling has been cast to star as the titular motorcycle-riding hero, while Shawn Levy will direct the project.
During the panel presentation, Feige noted that he has frequently been questioned about when the character and Gosling would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gosling then joined Feige on stage to address the audience. The actor expressed his excitement, stating that the superhero is a character he has wanted to play for a very long time.
Gosling introduced Levy to the stage, stating that Levy was the only director who could bring the character to the screen. The two are currently collaborating on the upcoming project Star Wars: Starfighter, which is set to release in theaters on May 28, 2027. Levy disclosed that he and Gosling spent significant downtime on that set discussing ideas for Ghost Rider.
Levy, who previously directed Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, explained that the collaboration grew naturally out of their shared vision for the character. Production and development details are expected to progress as the studios prepare for the film's planned 2028 theatrical release.
