Pressure is mounting on the Nepalese government to resolve the escalating standoff at Maitighar Mandala, where Rastriya Ekta Dal Chairman Vinay Yadav has reached the ninth day of his indefinite hunger strike. The ongoing protest stems from a violent clash in Kaptanganj, Dewan Ganj Rural Municipality-3, Sunsari district, prompting widespread calls for official intervention.
In a direct appeal to the administration, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Khusbu Oli highlighted the demonstrator's deteriorating situation during a House of Representatives session. She urged the government to abandon its inaction, address the movement's demands seriously, and initiate immediate diplomatic dialogue to break the deadlock.
The protest has simultaneously rallied key constitutional representatives, with Rastriya Madhesi Commission Chairman Vinay Datta visiting the strike site to voice solidarity. Interacting with media personnel, Datta emphasized that the state must not dismiss the agitators' demands and called for a transparent probe into the Sunsari violence, stringent legal actions against perpetrators, and reparations for affected families.
Expanding on national security implications, Datta warned that unchecked illegal financial transactions, unregulated immigration, and cross-border illicit operations pose significant threats to Nepal. He also expressed grave concern over recent targeted violence against members of the Hindu community, noting that such security gaps have intensified since the removal of constitutional Hindu state status.
As public participation grows with political figures, activists, and citizens gathering at the protest hub, the government has yet to issue an official stance regarding the demands or the latest legislative appeals.
