India has welcomed the successful conduct of elections in Nepal and congratulated the country’s leadership and citizens for exercising their democratic mandate.

Responding to media queries on Thursday, India’s Official Spokesperson Shri Randhir Jaiswal said the elections in Nepal witnessed enthusiastic participation from voters across the country. He said India congratulates Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the Government of Nepal, the Nepali people and all stakeholders for successfully organizing the polls.

According to the spokesperson, the elections were held against the backdrop of exceptional circumstances that occurred last year. Despite those conditions, he said the electoral process was conducted successfully with active public participation.

Jaiswal stated that India has consistently supported peace, progress and stability in Nepal. In keeping with this commitment, he said India provided logistical supplies for the elections following a request from the Government of Nepal.

The spokesperson added that India looks forward to working with the new Government of Nepal to further strengthen the robust and multifaceted relationship between the two countries and their peoples for mutual benefit.
