Rastriya Ekta Dal Chairman Binaya Yadav has officially commenced an indefinite hunger strike at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu under heavy police security. The fast-unto-death began in the afternoon following tense overnight developments and strict security arrangements around the venue.
Prior to reaching the protest site, Yadav stated on social media that security personnel had been pursuing him throughout the night. He noted that he was operating from an undisclosed location to ensure he could reach Maitighar Mandala by 11:00 AM to launch his fast against the recent violence in Sunsari.
In a midnight statement, the activist chairman expressed concerns over receiving repeated calls from unidentified numbers, which he attributed to state security agencies. He alleged that the government had adopted a policy to detain him, adding that if taken into custody or rendered out of reach, he would continue his hunger strike inside police detention.
The hunger strike follows a 24-hour ultimatum previously issued to the government demanding an impartial investigation into the Sunsari incident and justice for victims. Security forces have maintained a strict presence around Maitighar Mandala to prevent any disruption to public order as the protest proceeds.
