Arjun Narsingh KC has formally assumed his role as the senior-most member of Nepal’s House of Representatives after taking the oath of office and secrecy from President Ramchandra Paudel at Shital Niwas.

The ceremony was attended by key state officials, including Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, ministers, lawmakers, and senior government officials.

KC, 78, entered the House through the proportional representation system under the Nepali Congress in the elections held on Falgun 21.

With the oath now completed, KC will administer the oath to newly elected members of the House on Chaitra 12. Until a Speaker is elected, he will preside over parliamentary proceedings in his capacity as the eldest member.

The House of Representatives currently consists of 275 members—165 elected through the first-past-the-post system and 110 through proportional representation—marking the formal start of the new parliamentary cycle.
