India’s Top Diplomat Heads to Nepal: Why This Visit Matters More Than Ever

India's Foreign Secretary, Mr. Vikram Misri, who is widely recognized as a China expert, is set to undertake an official visit to Nepal from August 11 to 12, 2024. This visit comes at the special invitation of Nepal's Foreign Secretary, Ms. Seva Lamsal. Mr. Misri's visit will continue the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries, reflecting India's priority on its relationship with Nepal under the "Neighbourhood First" policy.

India and Nepal share a deep-rooted relationship built on centuries of civilizational, cultural, and people-to-people ties. In recent years, with India's support, significant infrastructure projects have been completed in Nepal, further strengthening connectivity between the two nations. As new projects are set in motion, bilateral cooperation has gained momentum, enhancing the bond between the countries.

Mr. Misri's expertise in handling relations with China adds a significant dimension to his visit, as Nepal's strategic location between India and China continues to shape regional dynamics. His visit is expected to take the bilateral relationship to new heights, providing an opportunity to reinforce and deepen cooperation between Nepal and India, further solidifying the already strong ties between the two neighbors.
