Analyst Prof. Dr. Surendra KC has stated that character modification, rather than constitutional amendment, is the primary necessity for Nepal at present. Speaking at an interaction program organized by the National Press Club, he questioned the justification of the Finance Minister after the Prime Minister revoked taxes on education and health under social media pressure. He expressed distress over educated individuals making errors in tax policy, while also warning that declaring a new Dalai Lama in Nepal would be a grave mistake and noting that Hark Sampang's statements could impact religious tolerance.
Expressing the view that no Nepali currently sees a future in the country, Prof. KC claimed that federalist and identity-based forces have lost influence because the public dislikes them, whereas Balen Shah became popular due to his individualistic character. On regional affairs, he noted shifting power dynamics in South Asia, speculated that the cockroach rebellion in India could be power-play maneuvers, and stated that it remains unclear whether removing the pointed map from the one-rupee coin is a misconception or a tilt toward India. Regarding ties with China, he warned against creating unnecessary tension, questioning if Nepal is courting danger by provoking China.
Meanwhile, demonstrators protesting against alleged governance failures at the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences have intensified their movement and demanded the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee. Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club, activist Prajwal Shrestha stated that a street signature campaign has continued for 92 days with over 9,500 signatures collected, alleging extreme policy corruption in public procurement, equipment management, and Vice-Chancellor appointments. Shrestha questioned why an MRI machine remained non-operational for 14 years, demanding an investigation into the assets of high-ranking officials and accountability regarding equipment purchases, contract engineers' qualifications, and staff salaries.
Co-activist Sarisma Thapa alleged that the Home Ministry acted autocratically by blocking their signature campaign despite Health Ministry permission, further alleging that she and Majid Ansari were arrested and beaten under the direction of Ojaswi Thapa. Thapa criticized the government over non-implementation of the Gauri Bahadur Karki Commission recommendations, suppression of Gen Z activists, and the removal of the pointed map, while announcing the establishment of 'The Red Chapter' to teach politics to youth. Demonstrators concluded by demanding an impartial probe into institutional irregularities and the prompt formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee.
