Nepal’s literary fraternity has lost one of its most esteemed linguistic figures following the sudden passing of Dr. Rajendra Bimal late Monday night. The 79-year-old scholar breathed his last at around 12:45 AM while receiving emergency medical care at a local hospital in Janakpurdham.
According to his youngest son, Dr. Vibhash Labh, the late author unexpectedly fell ill at approximately 11:30 PM on Monday during an ongoing conversation with family members. He was immediately rushed to a nearby healthcare facility, where medical personnel pronounced him dead during treatment.
A Legacy Across Multiple Languages
Dr. Bimal leaves behind a distinguished legacy spanning several decades in teaching, research, and creative writing. Holding a doctorate degree in linguistics along with master's degrees in Nepali, Maithili, and Hindi, his literary contributions spanned across multiple languages including English. He had been associated with Tribhuvan University as a professor of Nepali language since 1972.
In recognition of his monumental service to national letters, Dr. Bimal was honored with prestigious accolades, including the Jagadamba Shree Award and the Madhuparka Award.
Final Respects and Rites
The mortal remains of the revered writer have been kept at his personal residence in Devichok, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-10, allowing relatives, scholars, and well-wishers to pay their final tributes.
Dr. Vijay Datta confirmed that the final rites and cremation ceremony will be performed at 3:00 PM today at Swargadwari in Janakpurdham. The loss of Dr. Bimal marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in the country's academic and literary heritage.
