Kathmandu — After news of an objectionable conversation between a House of Representatives member from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and a female Provincial Assembly member from another political party was published, its fallout reached the media itself. Even though the news was broadcast as per rules keeping the names and identities of both individuals confidential, the online news portal 'Nepal Aaj' has received threats.

Threats via Facebook Message and Office Location Demanded

Threatening messages were sent from a profile named 'Basan Ta' to the message box of 'Nepal Aaja's official Facebook page. The messages demanded the office location, warning, "Don't make us come looking for you." Additionally, claiming that the leaked audio was 'AI-generated', allegations were made that the news was published just to go viral and gain likes and views.

'What Agony Must the Female Victim Have Suffered?'

A serious question arises: if the media receives open threats like this even when reporting impartially without revealing names or identities, what degree of mental and social threats must the female MP, who is the direct victim, be facing? Just like the saying 'a guilty mind needs no accuser', receiving such threats exposes the desperation of the guilty party.

Unnatural and Inhumane Competition in Journalism

Meanwhile, inhumane and irresponsible behavior has also been observed within the journalism sector regarding this sensitive incident. Concern has been expressed over an impolite rush among some journalists to make news by directly asking the victimized female MP, "Are you the person in the audio?", while ignoring the severity of the incident and the sensitivity of the victim.

Threats from Fake Account, Preparing to File Police Complaint

It is suspected that the Facebook account sending threats is fake. 'Nepal Aaja' stated that it will take strong steps against such criminal intentions to suppress the truth by threatening the media. 'Nepal Aaja' clarified that it is fully prepared to file a formal complaint with the police if necessary to bring such cybercrimes and threatening individuals/groups under the scope of law.
