Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun has announced that the government will draft and strictly implement a legal act to support innovators and foster innovation across Nepal. In a statement published on Facebook, Pun claimed that no previous Nepalese government has taken the necessary steps required to assist local innovators.
According to the Minister, the proposed legislation will establish a formal framework prioritizing state assistance in developing prototype goods and services. Under the planned legal provisions, the ministry intends to aid innovators in transforming successful prototypes into commercial products and services suitable for the market.
The planned legal framework also mandates securing intellectual property rights, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks, for promising products and services. Additionally, the ministry plans to invite investors to commercialize these viable creations and provide official support for the promotion and marketing of newly manufactured goods.
This legislative initiative represents a structural effort by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to institutionalize state support for homegrown technological solutions from initial prototyping to market expansion.
