In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, a police unit from Ward Police Office Shreepur has apprehended a high-profile fugitive in Birgunj. The individual, identified as 30-year-old Bikas Sharma, was previously convicted of kidnapping and homicide, receiving a 25-year prison sentence for his crimes.

Sharma, a resident of Bagaha in the West Champaran (Betiya) district of Bihar, India, had been hiding in Birgunj Metropolitan City-24, Ramgadhawa. His capture follows a period of evasion that began on September 9, 2025 (2082/05/24 BS), when he escaped from the Central Jail in Jagannathdewal, Kathmandu, during the Zen-Z movement unrest.

Acting on precise intelligence, the Parsa police team conducted the operation at approximately 3:00 PM on April 26, 2026 (2083/01/13 BS). Sharma, who was assigned prisoner ID number 9913804, was taken into custody without incident from his hideout.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet, the spokesperson for Parsa District Police, legal procedures are currently underway to return the convict to the relevant prison facility to serve the remainder of his sentence.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Madhesh Province police to track down individuals who escaped the penal system during past periods of civil instability.
