Pokhara Airport: Finding of Over Rs 10 Billion Corruption Welcomed by Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan

KATHMANDU – The Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan (National Unity Campaign) has expressed its welcome and appreciation following the conclusion released by a parliamentary subcommittee indicating corruption exceeding 10 billion rupees in the construction project of Pokhara International Airport.

Binay Yadav, the Chairperson of Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan, issued a statement today asserting that the campaign's continuous pressure programs, awareness initiatives, and strong advocacy played a crucial role in bringing this serious issue of corruption to light. He indicated that the campaign views the subcommittee's findings as a result of its efforts.

The statement mentioned that this corruption has dealt a severe blow to Nepal's development process and the future of the Nepali people. The campaign has strongly urged the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to take the strictest possible action against the guilty government officials, contractors, and all others involved in this matter, and to ensure the entire investigation process is conducted transparently.

The campaign stated that it has long been promoting public awareness in favour of an honest governance system, accountable administration, and a development model based on national interest in Nepal.

In his statement, Chairperson Yadav said, "As the Chairperson of Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan, I commend the parliamentary subcommittee's conclusion that corruption exceeding 10 billion occurred at Pokhara International Airport. The tireless demonstrations, public awareness efforts, and strong advocacy of our movement have exposed this grave injustice. This corruption has struck a blow against Nepal's development and the future of its people. We strongly demand the CIAA take immediate steps to ensure strict action against the guilty officials, contractors, and everyone involved, and to ensure a transparent investigation. The people of Nepal deserve honest governance, accountable administration, and development focused on the national interest, not a network of vested interests and corrupt elements. Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan will remain steadfast in this fight."

The campaign reiterated its commitment to remain firm in its fight against corruption and also warned of intensifying nationwide public pressure in the coming days.
